HAPPY HOUR – MARTINI ROSSO WITH PINK GRAPEFRUIT ICE CUBES

My taste in drinking seems to have been heavily influenced by women I think highly of. It was my friend Sophie who introduced me to Martini Rosso one summer evening in her lovely Parisian apartment. She served it in the smallest long stem glasses I have ever seen alongside pickled olives and slices of saucisson and Comté. And one small glass after the other, that night I couldn’t stop laughing.

I don’t know if it’s the memory of good Parisian times or of Sophie’s infectious laughter, but Martini Rosso has since become my aperitif of choice to ensure a fun dinner party follows suit.

With time I have learned to spice it up a bit though, so I can drink it at all hours (well, sort of), and this is definitely my favourite combination.

A little tip: try freezing the juice into ice cubes instead of mixing it in. As the ice melts, the juice is slowly released into your glass giving a fresh zing to the sweetly bitter Martini notes. Plus it’s a lovely way to decorate your drink and in just a few seconds, et voilà – your straight Martini Rosso becomes a sparkly cocktail!
