IF YOU ONLY BUY 5 THINGS THIS SPRING

Last season she held our collective hands as we negotiated the tricky style terrain that was Autumn/Winter’14. Now, she’s back to tell us what the hell we should be wearing now it’s February and pyjamas and Ugg boots are no longer fair game… shame. Over to you, Erica Davies.

Yes, yes, I know it’s still freezing cold outside and bobble hats are your new favourite accessory – but seriously, in the world of fashion we’re already looking ahead to the halcyon days of summer. In fact, the new season drops are happening everywhere as the sales stragglers slowly head off to an outlet village near you. To give you a headstart on what you’ll be wearing when the weather warms up, here are five key pieces that I promise will be your new season staples. Ready? Get shopping.

FINERY’S FLATS (OR *ANY* OF THEIR SHOES)

LL_FF_NEW-SEASON-TOP-5_1

Grown out of Topshop? Love Cos and Whistles? Then meet Finery, less Scandi and slightly girlier than Cos, but set to become the grown-up girl’s wardrobe go-to. Launched by former Topshop and ASOS creative Caron Downie, the whole collection is pretty special – but the shoes, at price points that are actually affordable – are fabulous. These brogues with spats should be worn with everything from pretty dresses to jeans and a white shirt. New classic alert.

ZARA’S FRINGED BAG

Any kind of fringe is this season’s instant updater, from jackets to denim. But the easiest way to SS15-up your outfit is to add a fringed bag. This messenger style from Zara is big enough to carry all your *stuff* but cool enough to make everything you wear it with look fresh.

THE NEW DENIM STYLES

Denim in all its many, many forms is key for Spring. Jeans take on a new shape with the slim leg bootcut-flare (who thought we’d ever see the bootleg again?) – MIH’s Marrakech is perfect. Or head to & Other Stories for two-tone denim that will look brilliant with a simple white tee shirt, thin gold necklace and a flat sandal (inside!).

JIGSAW’S SUMMER-WEIGHT SCARF

The easiest – and chicest – way to look pulled-together is to keep your outfit plain and accessorise stealthily. You will wonder how you survived without this neon and grey number – wear now with a cashmere crew neck, wear on sunnier days with a tee. It’ll even be useful on the beach. Buy.

M&S’S FLORAL SHIRT

Go big or go home, that’s the catwalk instruction for wearing florals this season – because, believe me, they’re everywhere and it really is a case of the bigger the better. This gorgeous china blue blouse is as far from ditsy as you can get. Wear with cropped jeans for a – wait for it – blooming great look. Sorry. Topshop’s graphic floral trousers are another top buy, which aren’t quite so obviously tapping into the pretty trend but would be an on and off-duty winner.
