11 Jan JANUARY SUPER JUICE – THE TROPICAL SMOOTHIE
Step away from the Frosties! Today sees our second instalment of delicious, easy-to-make smoothies by the fair hand of yoga teacher and good friend of Ladyland, Christine Joos. This week’s theme? It’s all about sunshine in a glass, and lord knows we’ve all been thinking about booking in some pool time this week…Create and enjoy responsibly.
My second smoothie is the perfect vehicle to channel your dream getaway. Drink a glass of this and you’ll soon be visualising your next beach holiday, complete with the vibrational frequency of palm trees, the comfiest ever hammocks and the sound of the ocean lapping on the shoreline (or is that you, slurping?).
Papayas are rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin E and anti-oxidants like beta-carotene which help to protect your skin from free radical damage and keep wrinkles and other signs of ageing at bay. Wow.
Oranges contain fiber, thiamine, folate and potassium and A LOT of Vitamin C, which is a great boost for your immune system.
Linseeds, aka flaxseeds, are powerhouses of nutrition. They are high in fiber, aid digestion and have a balancing effect on female hormones. They’re the richest plant source of Omega 3 fats, which are essential for a healthy brain, heart, joints and immune system. Gotta love them!
- 1/2 medium size papaya
- 1 banana
- 2 oranges
- 1 tbsp linseeds
- splash of soya milk
- 3 tbsp coconut yoghurt (coyo is dairy free)
- cacao nibs (optional)
- 1-2 medjool dates
- WHAM!’s ‘Club Tropicana’ (or your favourite holiday soundtrack)
Peel the banana, oranges and papaya and remove the seeds. Blend all ingredients, except coconut yoghurt and cacao nibs, until smooth. Add more soya milk if you prefer a smoother texture. Pour into a glass, top with coconut yoghurt, sliced medjool dates and cacao nibs. Enjoy while listening to your favourite summery tunes.
