LADYLAND LOVES – 5 TRAINERS TO BUY RIGHT NOW

Have you reached peak trainer yet?  If you’re anything like me (busy, tired, yet somehow still have the vague desire to look slightly stylish even in the face of new baby-sleep deprivation and daily school-run drama’s) your answer is probably no. Or even, not on your f***ing life. What other shoe manages to tick the style box as well as being comfortable, easy-to-wear, and ridiculously versatile I ask you? The answer is none. Despite promising myself I would wear my kicks less and let my *actual* shoes see the world outside my wardrobe, I just can’t bring myself to give up my trusty trainers.

So in the spirit of a) practicality and b) hoping that the end of the longest winter in history* is approaching, here’s my 5 top trainers to buy right now, whatever you’re looking for.

1.  adidas Originals Velcro Stan Smith In Snake Suede Trainers, £70

Any Stan-Smith-aholics out there? These are for you. A snaky, suede texture and triple velcro strap adds new season appeal to your wear-everywhere favourites. Laces? So last season… (Just kidding. Obviously)

2.  Nike Air Huarache Run Ultra, £95

If you’ve all but lived in your black Nike Frees for the last couple years and are looking for an update, may I suggest the Nike Air Huarache Run Ultra?. A chunkier profile and splashy logo combined with the easy-to-wear monochrome palette makes these a new season no-brainer. When the weather gets warmer they’ll look great with a pleated midi and sweatshirt.

3.  Nike Air Huarache Run, £93

Okay, so these are almost the same style as no.2, but the all-over pastel pink hue gives these a totally different look. Imagine them with faded denim and the perfect white tee. 90’s inspired Rachel from Friends perfection. If you’re into pretty with a twist, these are for you.

4. Common Projects Achilles leather low-top £250

If I started to lose you at £250, let me just remind you of those three very important words when it comes to shopping: Cost. Per. Wear. You’re welcome.

Now you’re back, let’s ooh and ah over the subtle slate grey colour, super-soft leather and understated luxury that makes this pretty much the perfect plimsol. If you’re looking for a trainer that crosses over into smart office territory more easily than your beloved Nike’s, this is the one.

5. Vans Old Skool Sk8 Hi top, £56.99

The name says it all- these high tops have a touch of the retro about them, but at the same time are minimal enough that they’ll suit even if retro isn’t usually your thing (it’s not mine). Need convincing further? Their hi-top status makes them the perfect between-seasons buy- just pull them on with your cropped jeans and a super-chunky knit and you’re good to go.
