MAGIC HAPPENS: CRYSTALS ARE COOL AGAIN

I challenge you to find a more exciting feeling than being an eleven-year-old girl in a crystal shop with a fresh wad of pocket money.

A few months ago I revisited this old feeling in Tintagel, Cornwall, which is one of those seaside towns with an economy built on the sales of candles, pewter dragons and crystals. As my inner eleven-year-old let out a little yelp of excitement, my husband rolled his eyes. “Call me when you’re done,” he said, before heading to the fish and chip shop with the kids.

The crystal emporium didn’t disappoint and came complete with a cat and a wirey-haired lady wearing purple. I left with some geode bookends, a quartz necklace, a chunk of amethyst and some agate coasters, which were greeted with another eye roll at the fish and chip shop.

Contrary to Mr Eye Roll’s beliefs, geology is making a pretty chic comeback and crystals are no longer the domain of ladies who wear purple. Here are some lovely ways to bring some natural beauty into your life. Not a pewter dragon in sight.
