SATURDAY SMOOTHIE − TOTALLY TASTY TOFU

We know what you’re thinking. Tofu. In a smoothie?
But trust 
Ladyland’s wellness doyenne, Christine Joos, when she tells you that it’s really REALLY good for you, in a totally tasty way too…

Dear smoothie enthusiasts, I have a confession to make. It’s only November, not even the beginning of the Christmas party season, and I’m already feeling in need of a detox, or a week of juicing at least. In the last couple of months there’s been a bit of celebration here, a bit of busy, busy, stress there, and more chocolate, chips and sweets than is frankly sensible. Sometimes it feels like there’s never enough time for all the stuff that makes me feel healthy and refreshed.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy because a lot of good things happened and I got a lot of things done− plus eating or drinking a bit of contraband is sometimes wholly necessary − however, I am now committing (on the internet!) to dedicate more energy towards eating and drinking clean and refreshing foods from now until Christmas to improve the good feelings into feelings of awesomeness.

And so today I want to share with you my Totally Tasty Tofu Smoothie. Tofu in a smoothie? Is that even legal, you may ask. Well, yes it is, and there are types of tofu, like the one I use from Demeter, that are perfect for making creamy, nutritious shakes, lassis or smoothies that, most importantly, taste delicious.

  • Tofu provides our bodies with strengthening plant proteins.
  • The oranges help boost your immune system with vitamin C and all-important antioxidants, which is pretty useful in this weird November weather where everybody seems to be sniffing.
  • Hempseeds provide valuable omega 3 fats − the ‘good oil’ that keeps us satisfied for longer and helps with weight control.
  • Meanwhile, mangoes are mega delicious and make the smoothie super smooth with an aromatic sweet hit.

4 tbsp soft tofu − I like Demeter
2 big handfuls of mango (frozen or unfrozen)
2 big or 3 medium size oranges
1 banana
1 tbsp hemp seeds
honey to taste, or your preferred sweetener
a few mango chunks for the topping
sprinkling of cinnamon

Place all the ingredients, apart from the cinnamon and mango chunks, into a blender and pulse until smooth. Transfer into a glass, add toppings and more honey if it needs some extra sweetness.
