28 Jan THE TASTIEST CHEESE TOASTIES TO MAKE & DEVOUR NOW!
What is the laziest dinner, apart from a takeaway of course? Well I would be tempted to say a bowl of cereal, but a close second in my mind are cheese toasties. I LOVE cheese on toast. It requires minimum effort, hardly any washing up, and it’s pretty tasty too − washed down with a cup of tea, in front of the telly of course.
I know, I know, everyone knows how to make cheese on toast. But here are three of my favourite toastie upgrades, just to mix it up a bit. Still no cooking required, just assembling! And a pretty tasty dinner offering I must say. You can always add a salad (ready made) if you must but I don’t, it’s a step too far in my book!
THE FRENCH TOASTIE
- Soft cheese, like Pont l’Evèque, Reblochon, or even a soft goat’s cheese
- Fancy bread, like a walnut loaf, sourdough… sliced
- Butter
- Honey to drizzle
- Thyme
1. Slice and butter your bread.
2. Add thick slices of cheese.
3. Drizzle on the honey and a few thyme leaves.
4. Put under a hot grill until the cheese has melted, and the bread is browning on the edges.
THE TAKE-AWAY TOASTIE
- Brown bread, medium sliced
- Strong Cheddar
- Butter
- Mango chutney
- A few crispy bacon rashers, crumbled
1. Toast your bread.
2. Butter your toast before spreading on a good teaspoon of mango chutney.
3. Add thick slices of Cheddar and crumble the bacon rashers on top.
4. Put under a hot grill until the cheese has melted, and the bread is browning on the edges.
THE CLASSIC CHEESE ON TOAST
- White bread, sliced
- Strong Cheddar
- Red Leicester
- Butter
- Worcester sauce
1. Toast your bread.
2. Butter your toast before adding slices of cheese.
3. Drizzle Worcester sauce on top.
4. Put under a hot grill until the cheeses have melted, and the bread is browning on the edges (you get the idea…).
